Gloves are a type of personal protective equipment (PPE) designed to protect staff from microbial contamination or contact with certain chemicals. They also play a key role in controlling the cross-transmission of healthcare-associated infections in patients.
For all patient contact, standard infection control precautions should be practiced. This includes regarding all blood and body fluids as potentially infectious. The appropriate use of gloves is therefore extremely important.
It is essential to wear gloves when working with hazardous chemicals and other materials to protect our hands from infection and contamination. Nitrile gloves protect against most chemicals and infectious agents.
